About the weight loss timeline calculator
The most common mistake in weight loss is not choosing the wrong diet but choosing an unrealistic timeline. People set a goal weight and an arbitrary deadline — ten kilos by summer — and then abandon the plan when the deadline passes long before the weight does. This calculator exists to replace the guess with arithmetic.
The rules of thumb are well established. Half a kilogram a week, or about one pound, is a sensible and sustainable pace for most people, and it came directly from the 500-calorie-a-day deficit. Faster is possible: one to one-and-a-half kilograms a week for larger people or those with a lot to lose, and slower is appropriate for smaller bodies who simply do not have the energy budget to run a big deficit.
There is a healthy floor worth respecting. A common guideline is not to exceed about 1 percent of your body weight per week. For an 85 kg person that is 850 grams a week. Going faster raises the risk of losing muscle, feeling exhausted, disrupting sleep and hormones, and rebounding once the diet ends. Slow is not lazy; slow is what lasts.
Use the estimated date as a planning tool, not a promise. Real weight loss is never linear: water shifts, hormones, salt, digestion and training all move the scale by a kilogram or more from day to day, and there are weeks where nothing seems to happen followed by a sudden drop. Judge the plan by the month, not the day. If you are consistently hitting the deficit and the four-week average is falling, you are on track regardless of what any single morning says.
This calculator returns estimates for general information only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it cannot replace an assessment by a qualified health professional. Individual results vary, and figures such as calorie needs, body-fat percentage and heart-rate zones are approximations based on population averages rather than measurements of you.
