FitCalc

Editorial Policy

How $FitCalc decides what to publish, where the numbers come from, and what happens when something is wrong.

What this site publishes

$FitCalc publishes health and fitness calculators: body composition, calorie and macro targets, training volumes, pace and heart rate, and progress tracking. Alongside them we publish written guides that explain how a calculation works and when it is the wrong tool for the job.

Nothing here is written for the purpose of ranking. A guide exists because someone asked a question the calculator did not answer. If a page does not help a reader make a decision, we do not write it.

How we choose which calculators to build

  • A real question. Someone is trying to work out a number about their own body or training, and wants a starting point rather than a guess.
  • A published basis. The method has to be documented and used widely enough that its limitations are known.
  • We can state its limits. Every calculator here says what it does not account for. That matters more in this niche than most, because the numbers concern people's bodies.

Where our numbers come from

Equations follow the published conventions of the field they come from, and each calculator states which one it uses. Where experts disagree — there is no single agreed formula for several of these — we say so instead of presenting one as settled.

We do not invent figures. If a number cannot be sourced confidently, we either leave it out or label it explicitly as an estimate and say what the estimate depends on.

How we review

Every calculator is checked against hand-worked examples with known answers before it goes live. Formulas are derived rather than copied, so we can explain why the result is what it is. Changes to existing calculators are re-checked the same way — not only new ones.

Corrections

If a calculation or a page is wrong, we fix it and say so. Email hello@fitcalchub.com and we will confirm what was wrong and when it was corrected.

We do not remove correct information because it is unfavourable to an advertiser, and we do not change a conclusion to match a paid placement.

Advertising

$FitCalc is supported by advertising. Advertising does not influence which calculators we build, how they calculate, or what a guide concludes. No page is written to promote a sponsor.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of advertisers. This site is not medical advice and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition; its disclaimers exist for a reason, and no advertiser has ever changed a formula or softened one.
